  • Ants: Hunting food a single ant can lead the way for an entire colony to invade your home. There are many varieties and each variety may require different methods of control.

  • Bees & Wasps: Bees have hairy bodies and wasps have smooth bodies. They are both very protective of their nests and defend against enemies with painful stings.

  • Carpenter Ants: Carpenter ants can be mistaken for termites. They cut “galleries” into the wood in your home or other structure. Colonies of carpenter ants can contain up to 50,000 workers. Infestations are very difficult to control.

  • Cockroaches: There are many varieties of roaches. Cockroaches can spread germs, worsen allergies and multiply at a record-breaking rate.

  • Crickets: House crickets can damage woolens, silk and your vegetables, fruits and paper.

  • Fleas: A female flea can produce up to 800 eggs during her lifetime. Fleas feed on human and animal blood through bites in the skin. They can jump from your carpet up your feet, ankles and calves.

  • Flies: Flies can carry more than 100 pathogens that can cause dangerous diseases in animals and humans. Flies spread diseases such as polio, tuberculosis and typhoid.

  • Mosquitoes: Mosquitoes are carries of some of humanities most deadly diseases. Their itching, irritating bites are generally allergic reactions to the mosquito’s saliva.

  • Moths: A female moth can lay up to 200 eggs. Their larvae feed on fur and wool fabric damaging valuable clothing.

  • Rodents: Rodents carry diseases. They multiply quickly and just a few can lead quickly to total infestation.

  • Silverfish: Silverfish eat paper and other items with high starch content. They are found in areas with high humidity.

  • Termites: Each year termite’s damage more homes than are damaged by fire.

  • Ticks: Ticks carry Lyme disease, encephalitis and typhus. They can live for more than 500 days without a meal.

  • Scorpions: Scorpion stings are among the most painful of insect stings.

Tips for keeping your home free of infestation

  • Exclude pest from your home or building by putting stainless steel wool in and around all outside openings.

  • Keep all wood, trash, boards, bricks, rocks and other objects away from your home.

  • Caulk around any cracks, pipes, and roof eaves into homes.

  • Store garbage cans in containers above ground level.

  • Keep tree branches and bushes trimmed away from your home.

  • Mow grass closely around your home.

  • Never bring firewood inside until it is ready to be placed on a fire.

  • Install weather-stripping around loose fitting doors and windows.

  • Keep window screens in good repair and make sure they fit tightly.

  • Never stack firewood next to your foundation.
